Drawing is at the heart of my work. All of my paintings and prints start from drawings but I usually try to “rein in” the freedom I feel with an element of refined pencil or pen technique. A number of drawings I’ve done have been colored pencil on toned paper. Most often I just use graphite pencil on paper. I often feel free to write what comes to mind as I work on these. They usually end up being a combination of words and pictures, much like illustrated manuscripts of the past.
